SECTION 4 THEORY OF OPERATION
The GRB-200 Demodulator consists of a number of subsystems as shown below in Figure
31.
The RF Front End connects to the Quorum GRB Feed and provides RF filtering, gain and
surge protection.
The Demodulator Sub-system provides state of the art digital DVB-S2 signal demodulation.
The Data Interface Sub-system provides flow control for the received data and provides a
means to read the data into the Data Processing Subsystem.
The Data Processing Sub-system is a set of software tasks running on an embedded Linux
Microcomputer which processes the received data and status information making them
available as UDP packets on a Gigabit Ethernet interface.
The Controller Sub-system is responsible for configuring the various hardware components
of the GRB Demodulator, monitoring the feed and demodulator status, controlling the Linux
sub-system, monitoring for alarm conditions and providing a user interface.
