Chapter 3 Out-of-Box Tuning
2. Set the following parameters according to your desired settings for the application.
3. Verify or set the following parameters to the values shown.
4. Run 10:910 [Autotune] = Direction (1).
5. Measure the motor electrical parameters.
a. Set 10:510 [MtrParam C/U Sel] = LoadCalcData (2). This will copy the calculated parameter values over to the user-entered
parameters. It will then switch to User Entered (1).
b. Run 10:910 [Autotune] = Rotate MtrID (3) to measure the motor electrical parameters. It initiates motion
and rotates the load. To
obtain the most accurate measure of motor flux current, disconnect the load for this test.
10:1006 [Alt Vel Fb Sel] Enter the 2-digit port location followed by the 4-digit parameter number of the alternate feedback device.
Primary Encoder Resolution
Parameters on the primary
feedback option card specify
the total resolution in edge
counts per revolution (EPR).
Low-Resolution Example
: Resolution = 1024 pulses per revolution * four quadrature edge counts
per pulse = 4096 EPR (12-bit). The low-resolution PPR comes directly from a parameter on the
option card.
When both A and B channels are selected for an incremental encoder, the edge count
multiplier is 4. This value is the typical and the default setting. When only channel A is
selected, then the edge count multiplier is 2.
High-Resolution Example
: Resolution = 1024 pulses per revolution * 1024 edge counts per pulse
= 1,048,576 EPR (20-bit).
For high-resolution devices, the overall resolution choices are 20-bit default or an optional
24-bit when the corresponding configuration bit is selected.
Encoderless Mode
: Primary Encoder Resolution with Virtual Encoder - when the Open Loop
Virtual Encoder is selected as the primary feedback device (10:1000 [Pri Vel Fb Sel = 10:1048
[Open Loop Fb]), the encoder resolution is defined by parameter 10:1018 [Virtual Enc EPR] which
is set by default to 4096 EPR.
The feedback option module is not required when velocity feedback is set to
10:1048 [Open Loop Fb].
Alternate Encoder Resolution
Parameters on the alternate
feedback option card specify
the total resolution in edge
counts per revolution (EPR).
Encoderless Mode: Alternate Encoder Resolution with Virtual Encoder - when the Open Loop
Virtual Encoder is selected as the alternate feedback device (10:1006 [Alt VelFb Sel = 10:1048
[Open Loop Fb]), the encoder resolution is defined in parameter 10:1018 [Virtual Enc EPR] which
is set by default to 4096 EPR.
Parameter No. Parameter Name Description
10:30 [PsnVelTrq Mode A]
Position, velocity, or
torque mode
Encoderless Mode: The drive can only operate in velocity mode when either of the following
is true:
The Primary Velocity Feedback is set to Open Loop Virtual Encoder
(10:1000 [Pri Vel Fb Sel] = 10:1048 [Open Loop Fb]).
The drive is set to 10:1019 [Fb Loss Action] = Auto Tach SW (2) and the alternate feedback
is set to 10:1006 [Alt VelFb Sel] = 10:1048 [Open Loop Fb], and a switch over to the
alternate feedback occurs due to a feedback loss fault.
10:1001 [Vel Fb Taps]
0 for high-resolution encoders
2…4 for low-resolution encoders
See Table 5 on page 24
for details.
10:1007 [Alt Vel Fb Taps]
0 for high-resolution encoders
2…4 for low-resolution encoders
10:2020 [LdObs Mode]
