ULTRIX-FR12 Installation Guide (v4.0) Cabling Your Router • 39
Inputs
When you enable a Gearbox input group, ULTRIX-FR12 multiplexes the signals of the four 3G Level A
channels together.
Connecting the SFP Ports
The primary function of SFP+ modules is to provide inputs and outputs different to the formats that
the HD-BNCs provide. The number of ports you have depends on the blade(s) installed in the
router, and the number of SFP+ modules you have chosen to install for each blade.
The AUX ports on the ULTRIX-IP-IO blade can only be used for Ultriscape Head outputs.
Working with Fiber Optic Connectors
Keep the following in mind if the SFP+ module(s) installed in a port includes a fiber optic connector:
Every time you are required to insert a connector into a device or mating sleeve, you must clean
the connector. All exposed surfaces of the ceramic ferrule must be clean. Follow your facility
practices of cleaning fiber optic connectors.
Connectors must always be inserted into a device or have a dust cap on.
A poor optical connection is often similar to a poor electrical connection. Try removing the
connector, cleaning, and re-inserting the connector. A bad connection can result in experiencing
instability of signal, high loss, or a noisy signal.

2. Connect the other end of the interface cable to the device that will communicate with the router
