1.2 PUMP BOWLS, IMPELLER, AND WEAR RINGS
1.2.1 Pump Bowls
Pump bowls are cast of high quality materials. Bowls are fitted with renewable sleeve bearings
located above and below each impeller. All pump bowls have rabbeted fits for alignment and are
sealed with O-ring gaskets. Each bowl is furnished with renewable wear rings.
1.2.2 Impeller and Wear Rings
Impellers used in Ruhrpumpen VLT process pumps are supported between bearings. Each impeller is
dynamically balanced and secured to the pump shaft by a split retaining ring and a retaining ring
guard with the impeller being locked to the shaft by a key or by an impeller collet. The first stage
impeller is specially designed to work with extremely low NPSH requirements while running at
optimum speeds.
Renewable bowl wear rings are standard. Renewable impeller wear rings are standard except for
pump sizes 100, 200, 600, 650, 850 and 950.
1.3 NOZZLE HEAD
All nozzle heads are of fabricated steel (standard material) with ANSI rated flanged nozzles. The
nozzle head supports the pump bowl assembly and column pipe, and directs the flow from the pump
into the discharge line. The suction nozzle may be located in the nozzle head or suction can. The
pump shaft is sealed against leakage as the pumped medium passes through the head by means of a
mechanical seal.
