4.4 INSTALLATION
Before starting the installation it is recommended to hire an electrician to connect the motor after
the installation.
WARNING: Residues and loose materials must be taken out of the well before
installing the pump. If a strainer is installed on the suction bowl, care must be
taken to avoid damaging it during transportation.
4.4.1 Pump Installation Procedure
1. The major portion of the pump suction can is generally installed below grade/ground
level. First, a hole is drilled to a diameter and depth adequate for the suction can that will
be installed.
2. A good solid concrete foundation (or equivalent) is necessary to give a permanent rigid
support for the pump and its suction can. It must be able to support the load placed by the
pump and the pumped liquid.
3. A permanently sealed ground casing will be installed to contain the surrounding dirt. This
permanent ground casing must extend at least 4 inches (100 mm) above the foundation.
This is to prevent any leakage that could find its way to the space between the permanent
ground casing and the suction can, which could drive the suction can up or collapse it,
causing a complete pump failure.
4. If your pumping unit has the suction nozzle on the suction can, style “SB”, make sure to
leave enough space in the piping layout for the grout.
