4.4.2 Driver Mounting
NOTE: Pumps supplied with a thrust pot have specific instructions that detail how to mount the
driver. For external thrust pots, follow specific instructions supplied separately to mount the driver
and continue with step 3 and onwards from the instructions below to connect the thrust pot shaft (as
driver shaft) to the pump shaft. Continue with the coupling and impeller setting according to the
instructions in Section 4.3.3 Rotating Assembly Adjustment. For internal thrust pots models 311 and
7312, follow their specific instructions supplied separately to mount the driver and adjust the
impellers.
NOTE: When those instructions are included as applicable, instructions on this page can be
disregarded.
1. Check the dimensions of the mounting flange and the shaft extension to make sure that
they will fit the nozzle head and the driver half coupling.
2. Support the driver vertically. Clean thoroughly the driver shaft and both the driver and the
nozzle head mounting flanges faces. File any raised areas flat in order to help maintain an
adequate shaft alignment and reduce vibrations.
3. Check the concentricity of the rabbet fit and the squareness of the mounting face with
relation to the shaft.
4. Place the key on the driver shaft keyway. The key should fit by hand. If needed, file or
grind surfaces and clean with a fine emery cloth in order to obtain a tight fit.
5. Slide the driver half coupling on the shaft. If coupling insertion is difficult, slightly sand the
coupling bore with a fine emery cloth.
6. Slide the coupling all the way up to the driver shaft. Insert the split ring and then pull the
coupling down until it seats against the split ring.
NOTE: If the nozzle head is supplied with driver alignment jack screws, continue with step 7, if not, go
to step 8.
7. Align the driver to the pump by performing the following steps:
a. Place the driver on the nozzle head.
b. Remove the split gland and the gland studs.
c. Mount a dial indicator to the driver half coupling and sweep the inside bore of the
stuffing box by rotating the driver shaft. Sweep also the outside diameter of the seal
flange.
