6. LUBRICATION
6.1 BUSHING LUBRICATION
6.1.1Self-Lubricating Bushings
Self-lubricating bushings are lubricated using the same fluid that is being pumped. As the fluid rises
thru the column tube, the fluid bleeds thru the bushings, keeping them lubricated
6.1.2 Oil Lubricated Bushings
Oil lubricated bushings depend on an oil tank and a dripper to remain lubricated. These types of
pumps are furnished with a closed shaft; this means a sleeve surrounds the shaft. An oil tank is
installed on the thrust pot and valve is opened to provide a constant oil drip. The oil drip rate
recommended is of 18 to 20 drops per minute for every 10 meters (32.8 feet) of shaft your pump is
furnished with.
Recommended Lubricant
The usage of turbine quality oil is recommended. This oil may be used during break-in and normal
operation.
Method of Application
About 8 to 10 hours prior to the pump’s startup, the customer must fill the oil tank located on the
thrust pot with the recommended oil type and the drip valve must be opened and set to the
recommended oil drip rate. This must be done to ensure that the shaft and the bushings are properly
lubricated when the pump is started up.
Oil Change
Once every eight hours of pump operation, perform visual inspection of oil and oil level at the oil
tank.
The first oil change should be carried out three weeks after commissioning; all further oil changes
take place every six months. However, replenish oil as necessary if the oil tank is emptied.
Only change the oil when the machine is switched off.
