8.2 FILLING/VENTING
Duringpre‐commissi oning,pump casingmust be filled with fluid.Other

Take precautionary measures when manipulating dangerous or
pollutingfluids.Wearingindividualprotectivedevicesisnecessary.

8.3 START‐UP
Check that the automatic greasing cartridge is screwed in
mechanical seal housing and that it is switched on in position 12.

Open slightly the discharge valve (onl y if no auxiliaryventing pipeis
installed)
.
Openallvalvesinsuctionline.
Switchonthepump
Wait until pump has primed and note this priming time. Then close
the discharge isolating valve and measure max pressure (zero flow).
Comparethispressuretotheshutoffpressureavailableonthehydraulic
curve.
In orde
r to avoid overheating of the liquid inside the pump the
pump should not work more than 20 to 30 seconds against a
closeddischargevalve.
Ifexpectedpressureisreachedthenopenprogressivelythedischarge
valve.
8.4 RUNNINGCHECKS
During operation of pump in duty conditions (capacity, head ,
temperature,…)thefollowingpointsmustbechecked:
Check andnote pumpduty point. Ifnecessary convertpressure value

8.5 SHUTDOWN

Ensure that the pump runs in that condition no more than few
seconds.
When the pump has come to a standstill : close the suction isolating
valve.Ifthepumpisequippedwithauxiliarysystems suchas a quench,

Iftemperatureislikelyto drop belowfreezingpoint,pumpcasing
andauxiliary connected systems shouldbe completelydrained or
otherwise protected. For prolonged shut‐downs an adapted rust
protective coating should be applied to the inside an
d outside of the
pump.
Pumping explosive, toxic or polluting fluids : make sure that all
necessaryactions weretakentoavoidthecreationofahazardfor
peopleorenvironmentduringdrainageoperations.
Products which are sent back to Salmson must be drained and
cleaned. Pumped fluid should be com
pletely removed from the
pump.
8.6 PRIMINGTIME

seconds:itiscalledprimingtime.
Piping will be design in order to allow free air extraction without

Even if themechanical seal is equippedwith a quenchbehind the
stationary seat, priming time will be limited to 5 minutes. If
