Installation
If the sensor is to be used with a thermowell,
only use original SAMSON thermowells.
Weld on a pipe socket with female thread
(socket-welddesigntotthescrewglandof
thesensor)ofapprox.40mminlengthat
the place of installation (this also applies
when a thermowell is used).
Î Seal the screw gland of the sensor.
Installation with thermowell
When a thermowell is used, a welding sock-
etwithG1femalethreadmustbeused.
1. Remove the double nipple (17) or ther-
mowell (if used) from the sensor (19) and
seal it into the welded socket.
2. Adjust the highest possible set point at
the set point adjuster (12.2) using the
key (12.1).
3. Insert the sensor with the associated seal
into the double nipple or thermowell. Se-
cure it with the coupling nut (16). The
entire length of the temperature sensor
(19) or thermowell must be immersed in
the process medium.
Werecommendllingthefreespacebe-
tween sensor and thermowell with oil or,
wheninstalledhorizontally,withgreaseor
any other heat transfer medium to avoid de-
lays during heat transmission. Observe the
thermalexpansionofthellingmedium.Al-
low some space for expansion or slightly
loosen sensor nut for pressure compensation.
Note
For temperature regulators with safety tem-
perature limiter (TR/STL), install the sensor of
the limiter near the sensor of the regulator.
Dynamic behavior of the control thermo-
stats
The dynamics of the regulator are mainly de-
termined by the response of the sensor with
its characteristic time constant (see Table
5-10).

Capillary tube
Carefullyrunthecapillarytube(11)without
bending or twisting it. Avoid locations with
considerableambienttemperatureuctua-
tions along the entire length of the tube.
Do not damage or shorten the capillary
tube. Roll up any capillary tube that is not
used. The smallest permissible bending radi-
us is 50mm.
