4. REASSEMBLY
Assembly of front axle unit generally follows the
disassembly procedure in reverse and refer to as
follows:
NOTE: Replace all seals and O-rings that have been
removed in the disassembly procedure.
1) Drive Pinion Installation
1. Install the drive pinion, 7, bearings, 8, and 9, O-ring,
10, and collar, 11, together into the axle housing.
NOTE: Observe the quantity and size of the shims, 6,
located between the spacer, 5, and bearing, 9,
Shim sizes are 0.1 mm and 0.2mm.
2. Install the shims, 6, spacer, 5, and snap ring, 4.
3. Drive pinion assembly is properly shimmed when
end play of pinion shaft is 0 - 0.08mm.
4. Install the oil seal, 1.
5. Install the collar, 3, and snap ring, 2, onto the
pinion shaft.
2) Differential backlash adjustment
Place the differential ass’y into the housing.
Adjust the shims as follows.
Adjust the differential bearing depth from the housing
end surface, and adjust by shims to 15.15 – 15.22 mm.
3) Differential shaft installation
Align the roll pin, 1, on the pinion shaft to hole of both
differential shaft end when install the differential shaft,
2 and 3.
Assembly
When installing the new seal, be sure to properly
orient the seal in the cover. The metal side of the seal
should face outward when properly installed in the
cover.
