2.5.5 RS485 Modbus connections
The IMx-8/IMx-8Plus both have one, 2-wire, RS485 port. For this there are
considerations related to grounding and bus termination, Figure 8.

*G/G3 (Ground): Devices connected to the bus must have the same ground potential.
When ‘floating’ equipment is connected to the IMx bus, the G/G3 connection can be
used to ensure the same ground potential. Normally, all devices are connected to the
same ground connection.
Important - To avoid ground loops, ensure that there is only one ground
connection. The IMx device’s G/G3 (Ground) connector can be used in cases
where the connected equipment bus is floating.
