1.7 Inspecting the exhaust system for leak
tightness
Work procedure
– Start engine and run at idling speed.
– Close off exhaust tailpipes for the duration of the leak test,
using cloths or plugs.
– Check connection points for leak tightness by listening: ex‐
haust manifold at cylinder head, exhaust gas turbocharger at
pre-exhaust pipe, etc.
– Eliminate any leak found.
