3.4 Controlling the VLC-2-EIP with a PLC using Studio 5000 software
utilizing Add-On-Instructions
The Add-On-Instructions (AOI) are made available by SMAC to simplify the control of VLC-EIP in
RSLogix/Studio 5000 environment instead of having to manually address the acyclic and cyclic
objects described previously. The AOIs are as follow
3.4.1 Basic servo configuration
This AOI has a container for explicit messages that are used to configure ‘basic’ servo control
parameters that are required to perform various modes of operation, e.g. homing, position
move, current move, etc.

See the VLC manual for more information about all the input parameters above (SP, PH, etc.). A
message instruction has to be defined for each ‘.._MSG’ parameter above. The message
instruction will have to be configured based on the corresponding acyclic servo object (see also
table 3.1), as summarized in the following table.
