TS20C USER MANUAL SECTION 4
106
4.6 ELECTRICAL PREPARATION
Interior electrical wiring is installed at the factory.
Required customer wiring should be done by a
qualified electrician in compliance with OSHA,
National Electric Code and/or any applicable local
electrical codes. Customer to supply power via cam-
lock located on end of enclosures. An electrical
check should be made to ensure that the first start-up
will be successful. The compressor and drive should
be properly grounded/earthed in accordance with
applicable codes, regulations, and requirements.
Installation of this compressor must be in accordance
with recognized electrical codes and any local Health
and Safety Codes.
Feeder cables should be sized by the customer/
electrical contractor to ensure that the circuit is
balanced and not overloaded by other electrical
equipment. The length of wiring from a suitable
electrical power source is critical because voltage
drops can adversely affect the performance of the
compressor.
The applied voltage must conform to the motor and
compressor data plate ratings.
1. Check incoming voltage. The incoming
voltage must match the compressor’s wire
rating/specifications.
2. Check motor starting device and overload
heater sizes.
3. Check all electrical connections for
tightness.
4. Jog the motor for a direction of rotation
check, as explained in Motor Rotation
Direction Check on Section 4.7.
4.7 MOTOR ROTATION
DIRECTION CHECK
Motor rotation check must be done at compressor
start-up after the wiring has been installed. The
compressor can be damaged if it runs in the wrong
direction for more than a few seconds. Motor rotation
can be viewed through the opening in the drive
adapter housing. Pull out the EMERGENCY STOP
button and press once, quickly and in succession,
the (START) and (STOP) pads. This
action will bump start the motor. When looking at the
motor from the end opposite the compressor unit, the
shaft should turn clockwise. If reverse rotation
occurs, disconnect the power to the starter and
exchange any two of the three power input leads,
then re-check rotation. A “Direction of Rotation” decal
is located on the motor drive housing to show proper
motor/compressor rotation.
Fan motor rotation should also be checked. It should
rotate clockwise when viewing the fan motor from the
backside of the motor.
WARNING
Energized internal components are a poten-
tially FATAL SHOCK HAZARD. Disconnect
all power before performing any work on the
compressor’s electrical system.
