Adjustment
The converter center distance sho ul d be 12 in.

1. Loosen the jacks haft adj ust ing bolt and
lock nu t the t wo bolts on the jackshaft beari ng
retai ner , and the fo ur bo lt s holding the cha in -
case to the chassis. (See Figures
2-7 0 and 2- r
71 .)
2. Move the bearing retai ner and chaincase fo r-
wa rd or rea rw ard, as required, to obtain 12 in .
(304 .8 mm ) ce nt er distance.

bearing retain er , re member the nu mb er
and placement of th e shims betwee n t he
retai ner and th e fram e. The bearing
retainer sh ou ld be shimmed unti l th e
jacks h aft center lin e is 6. 62 in. (168. 15
mm ) above the track driv es haft cen te rlin e.
3. Check th e shi mm ing of t he jacksha ft bearing
retai ner as fol lows:
a. Remove th e shims be lo w the bea ri ng
retainer.
b. Posi
tion the bo tt om of th e re taine r para ll el
to t he top of th e chassi s.
c. Install U shaped shims, as r eq uired, to fi ll
the space between th e botto m of retainer a nd
top of chassis.
This procedure
w ill preve nt excess ive preloading of
jackshaft bea ring at chaincase end of shaft.
4.
Turn the adj usting bolt so t he head of the bo lt
contacts the jack shaft bearing reta in er fla ng e
and ti ghten the jam nut .
5. Ti
ghten al l bolts and lock nut on the jacksha ft
bearing retain er and chaincase.
