cable free
movement

If
adjustment
of
the
e
nrichener
cable is required,
loosen
the
lockn
ut
and
turn
the
adjusting
screw
to
obtain
the
correct
clearance.
Ignition System
Maintenance
Since
the
COl system has no
mechanical
parts,
there
are no parts to
wear
out, and no
scheduled
maintenance
is
required
. If any of
the
COl system
components
are defective,
they
must
be replaced.
Ignition Timing Adjustment
1. Remove recoil
starter.
Remove
the
right
hand
side spark
plug and
install
a dial
indicato
r in
the
spark plug
hole
. (See Figure
2-51.)
2. Position
the
recoil side
piston
at
0.073
in.
(1.86
mm)
before top dead center.
3.
Check
that
the
F
mark
on
the
flywheel
aligns
with
fixed
mark
on
the
magneto
housing.

NOTE: If
the
F
mark
on
the
flywhe
el is
off
s
lightly
,
loosen
the
four
nuts
securing
the
magneto
cover to
the
crankcase and
shift
the
cover accordingly. If
the
mark
position
is
not
corrected
with
this
pro-
cedure,
replace
the
flywheel.
After
the
mark
is
corrected, check
the
timing
with
a
timing
l
ight
.
4. Remove
the
dial
indicator
and replace the
spark
plug and lead
wire
.
5.
Connect a strobe type
timing
l
ight
to
the
right
hand
side spark plug lead,
follow
light
manu-
facturer's
instructions.
(See Figure
2-52.)
Us
e
the
snowmobile
tachometer
to
measure
RPM.

Do
not
touch
the
spark
plug
leads
while
engine
is
running
as
they
will
transmit
a
powerful
electrical
shock.
Do
not
touch
the
hot
exhaust
system
. A
severe
burn
would
result
.
6.
W
it
h
torque
converter
belt
removed and
guard
secured in place,
start
the
engine
with
emer-
gency
start
rope on
drive
converter,
run
at
approximately
6,500
RPM, and
direct
the
timing
light
at
the
fixed
mark
on
the
magneto
housing. The
ignition
timing
is
correct
when
the
F
mark
on
the
flywheel
appears in
al
i
gn-
ment
with
the
fixed
mark
on
the
magneto
housing
as
the
light
flashes.
