StartingandStoppingthe
Engine
Important:Youmustbleedthefuelsystembefore
startingtheengineifyouarestartingtheengine
forthersttime,theenginehasstoppeddueto
lackoffuel,oryouhaveperformedmaintenance
onthefuelsystem;refertoBleedingtheFuel
System(page41).
StartingtheEngine
1.Sitontheseat,keepyourfootoffthetraction
pedalsothatitisinNEUTRAL,engagetheparking
brake,setthethrottletotheFASTposition,and
ensurethattheEnable/Disableswitchisinthe
DISABLEposition.
2.TurntheignitionswitchtotheON/PREHEAT
position.
Anautomatictimercontrolstheglowplug
preheatfor6seconds.
3.Afterpreheatingtheglowplugs,turnkeytothe
STARTposition.
Cranktheenginefornolongerthan15seconds.
Releasethekeywhentheenginestarts.If
additionalpreheatingisrequired,turnkeyto
theOFFpositionandthentotheON/PREHEAT
position.Repeatthisprocessasrequired.
4.Runtheengineatlowidlespeeduntilitwarms
up.
StoppingtheEngine
1.MoveallcontrolstoNEUTRAL,settheparking
brake,movethethrottletothelowidleposition
andallowtheenginetoreachlowidlespeed.
Important:Allowtheenginetoidlefor5
minutesbeforeshuttingitoffafterafull
loadoperation.Failuretodosomayleadto
troubleonaturbo-chargedengine.
2.TurnthekeytotheOFFpositionandremoveit
fromtheswitch.
AdjustingtheLift-Arm
Counterbalance
Youcanadjustthecounterbalanceontherear
cutting-unitliftarmstocompensatefordifferentturf
conditionsandtomaintainauniformheightofcutin
theroughconditionsorinareasofthatchbuildup.
Youcanadjusteachcounterbalancespringto1of
4settings.Eachincrementincreasesordecreases
counterbalanceonthecuttingunitby2.3kg(5lb).
Youcanpositionthespringsonthebacksideofthe
rstspringactuatortoremoveallcounterbalance
(fourthposition).
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface,lower
thecuttingunits,stoptheengine,engagethe
parkingbrakes,andremovethekeyfromthe
ignitionswitch.
2.Insertatubeorsimilarobjectontothelong
springendandpivotitaroundthespringactuator
tothedesiredposition(Figure29).
CAUTION
Thespringsareundertensionandcould
causepersonalinjury.
Usecautionwhenadjustingthem.

1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface,lower
thecuttingunits,stoptheengine,engagethe
parkingbrakes,andremovethekeyfromthe
ignitionswitch.
2.Thelift-armswitchislocatedunderneaththe
hydraulictankbehindthefront,rightliftarm
(Figure30).
3.Loosentheswitch-mountingscrews(Figure
30)andmovetheswitchdowntoincreasethe
lift-armturnaroundheightormovetheswitchup
todecreasethelift-armturnaroundheight.
