neardropoffs,ditches,embankments,water
hazardsorotherhazards.Themachinecould
suddenlyrolloverifawheelgoesovertheedge
ortheedgecavesin.Establishasafetyarea
betweenthemachineandanyhazard.
•Identifyhazardsatthebaseoftheslope.
Iftherearehazards,mowtheslopewitha
pedestrian-controlledmachine.
•Ifpossible,keepthecuttingunit(s)loweredtothe
groundwhileoperatingonslopes.Raisingthe
cuttingunit(s)whileoperatingonslopescancause
themachinetobecomeunstable.
•Useextremecautionwithgrasscollectionsystems
orotherattachments.Thesecanchangethe
stabilityofthemachineandcausealossofcontrol.
StartingtheEngine
Important:Bleedthefuelsystemifanyofthe
followingsituationshaveoccurred:
•Theenginehasceasedrunningduetolackoffuel.
•Maintenancehasbeenperformeduponthefuel
systemcomponents.
1.Removeyourfootfromthetractionpedaland
ensurethatthepedalisintheNEUTRALposition.
Note:Ensurethattheparkingbrakeisengaged.
2.Movetheengine-speedswitchtotheLOWIDLE
position.
3.TurnthekeytotheRUNposition.
Note:Theglowindicatorwilllight.
4.Whentheglowindicatordims,turnthekeyto
theSTARTposition.
5.Releasethekeyimmediatelywhentheengine
startsandallowittoreturntotheRUNposition.
6.Adjusttheenginespeed.
Important:Donotrunthestartermotor
morethan15secondsatatimeorpremature
starterfailuremayresult.Iftheenginefails
tostartafter15seconds,turnthekeyto
theOFFposition,recheckthecontrolsand
procedures,wait15additionalseconds,and
repeatthestartingprocedure.
Whenthetemperatureislessthan-7°C(20°F),
thestartermotorcanberunfor30secondson
then60secondsofffor2attempts.
CAUTION
Contactwithmovingpartscouldresult

Shutofftheengineandwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforechecking
foroilleaks,looseparts,andother

ShuttingOfftheEngine
Important:Allowtheenginetoidlefor5minutes
beforeshuttingitoffafterafull-loadoperation.
Thisallowstheturbochargertocooldownbefore
shuttingofftheengine.Failuretodosomaylead
toturbochargertrouble.
Note:Lowerthecuttingunitstothegroundwhenever
youparkthemachine.Thisrelievesthehydraulicload
fromthesystem,preventswearonsystemparts,and
alsopreventsaccidentalloweringofthecuttingunits.
1.Returntheenginespeedtolowidle.
2.MovethePTOswitchtotheOFFposition.
3.Engagetheparkingbrake.
4.RotatethekeytoOFF.
5.Removethekeyfromtheswitchtoprevent
accidentalstarting.

Counterbalance
Youcanadjustthecounterbalanceontherear
cutting-unitliftarmstocompensatefordifferentturf
conditionsandtomaintainauniformheightofcutin
roughconditionsorinareasofthatchbuildup.
Youcanadjusteachcounterbalancespringto1of
4settings.Eachincrementincreasesordecreases
thecounterbalanceonthecuttingunitby2.3kg(5
lb).Youcanpositionthespringsonthebacksideof
therstspringactuatortoremoveallcounterbalance
(fourthposition).
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthe
cuttingunits,engagetheparkingbrake,shutoff
theengine,andremovethekey.
