BleedingtheFuelSystem
Youmustbleedthefuelsystembeforestartingthe
engineifanyofthefollowingsituationshaveoccurred:
•Initialstartupofanewmachine.
•Enginehasceasedrunningduetolackoffuel.
•Maintenancehasbeenperformeduponfuelsystem
components(e.g.,lterreplaced).
Undercertainconditions,dieselfuelandfuel
vaporsarehighlyammableandexplosive.A
reorexplosionfromfuelcanburnyouand
othersandcancausepropertydamage.
•Useafunnelandllthefueltankoutdoors,
inanopenarea,whentheengineisoffand
iscold.Wipeupanyfuelthatspills.
•Donotllthefueltankcompletelyfull.Add
fueltothefueltankuntilthelevelis1/4to
1/2in.(6to13mm)belowthebottomof
thellerneck.Thisemptyspaceinthetank
allowsthefueltoexpand.
•Neversmokewhenhandlingfuel,andstay
awayfromanopenameorwherefuel
fumesmaybeignitedbyaspark.
•Storefuelinaclean,safety-approved
containerandkeepthecapinplace.
1.Ensurethatthefueltankisatleasthalffull.
2.Openthehood.
3.Opentheairbleedscrewonthefuelinjectionpump
(Figure21).

4.TurnthekeyintheignitionswitchtotheOn
position.Theelectricfuelpumpwillbegin
operation,therebyforcingairoutaroundtheair
bleedscrew .LeavethekeyintheOnpositionuntil
asolidstreamoffuelowsoutaroundthescrew .
5.TightenthescrewandturnthekeytotheOff
position.
Note:Normally,theengineshouldstartafterthe
abovebleedingproceduresarefollowed.However,
ifenginedoesnotstart,airmaybetrappedbetween
injectionpumpandinjectors;contactyourAuthorized
ServiceDealer.

StartingtheEngine
1.Ensurethattheauxiliaryhydraulicsleverisin
neutral.
2.Movethethrottlelevermidwaybetweenslow
(turtle)andfast(rabbit)positions.
3.TurntheignitionkeytotheRunposition.
4.Presstheglowplugswitchandholditfor10
seconds.
5.TurntheignitionkeytotheStartposition.When
theenginesstarts,releasethekey.
Important:Donotengagethestarterformore
than10secondsatatime.Iftheenginefails
tostart,allowa30secondcool-downperiod
