Ifyoustorethemachineinalocationwheretemperaturesare
extremelyhigh,thebatteryrunsdownmorerapidlythanifthe
machineisstoredinalocationwherethetemperatureiscool.
Keepthetopofthebatterycleanbywashingitperiodically
withabrushdippedinammoniaorbicarbonatesodasolution.
Flushthetopsurfacewithwateraftercleaningit.
Important:Donotremovethellcapswhilecleaning
thebattery.
Thebatterycablesmustbetightontheterminalstoprovide
goodelectricalcontact.
Ifcorrosionoccursattheterminals,disconnectthecables,
negative(-)cablerst,andscrapetheclampsandterminals
separately.Connectthecables,positive(+)cablerst,and
coattheterminalswithpetroleumjelly.
WARNING
Batteryterminalsormetaltoolscouldshortagainst
metalmachinecomponents,causingsparks.Sparks
cancausethebatterygassestoexplode,resulting
inpersonalinjury.
•Whenremovingorinstallingthebattery,donot
allowthebatteryterminalstotouchanymetal
partsofthemachine.
•Donotallowmetaltoolstoshortbetween
thebatteryterminalsandmetalpartsofthe
machine.

Incorrectbatterycableroutingcoulddamagethe
machineandcables,causingsparks.Sparkscan

cablebeforedisconnectingthepositive(red)

StoringtheBattery
Ifyouarestoringthemachinemorethan30days,removethe
batteryandchargeitfully.Eitherstoreitonashelforonthe
machine.Donotconnectthecablesifyoustoreitonthe
machine.Storethebatteryinacoolenvironmenttoprevent
thebatteryfromdischargingrapidly.Topreventthebattery
fromfreezing,makesureitisfullycharged.Thespecic
gravityofafullychargedbatteryis1.265to1.299.
CheckingtheFuses
Thefusesarelocatedunderthecontrolpanel.Accessthem
throughthesidepanelcover(Figure42).Toopentheside
panelcover,releasethe2latchesandpulloutonit.
Ifthemachinestopsorhasotherelectricalsystemissues,
checkthefuses.Graspeachfuseinturnandremovethem1
atatime,checkingifanyareblown.
Important:Ifyouneedtoreplaceafuse,alwaysusethe
sametypeandamperage-ratedfuseastheoneyouare
replacing,otherwiseyoucoulddamagetheelectrical
system.Refertothedecalnexttothefusesforadiagram
ofeachfuseanditsamperage(Figure43).
Note:Ifafuseblowsfrequently,youprobablyhaveashort
intheelectricalsystemandshouldhaveitservicedbya
qualiedservicetechnician.
