Notes on the proper storage of the power generators
PG-E-Series | Version 2.15 19
9.3 Maintenance plan
10 Notes on the proper storage of the
power generators
Storage shorter than 30 days:
- Start the generator every 7 days and allow it to
warm up - however, storage should generally be
avoided
- Storage must be guaranteed in a dry and dust-free
room
- Do not expose to large temperature fluctuations (
The temperature range should be between mini-
mum 0° Celsius and maximum +40° Celsius)
shorter than 1 year:
- Clean and cover the generator.
- Before storing, change the oil, as it is possible that
old oil will have drawn water and components in
the generator will begin to corrode.
- (Change the engine oil when the engine is warm
and not hot).
- Fill up with high-quality fuel, preferably without et-
hanol and with suitable additives (stabilisers, antio-
xidants, corrosion protection).
- Disconnect the battery and connect it to a voltage
maintenance device (battery should be stored in a
room at approx. 20° Celsius).
longer 1 year
Note: It is important to remove all liquids from the gene-
rator, as fuel such as petrol and diesel in particular only
have a shelf life of approx. one year.
- Remove all liquids (oil and fuel) from the generator.
It is also important to ensure that the carburettor is
free of fuel.
- Remove the spark plug and cover the openings
with a clean cloth.
- Pour 15 ml of engine oil into the cylinder and crank
the generator a few revolutions so that the oil is
distributed.
- Screw the spark plugs back in
- Preserve the oil and petrol or diesel tank with
suitable corrosion protection.
- Disconnect the battery and connect it to a voltage
maintenance device (at best, the battery should be
stored in a room with a temperature of approx. 20°
Celsius).
- Ensure storage in a dry and dust-free room
- Do not expose to large temperature fluctuations
(the temperature range should be between a mini-
mum of 0° Celsius and a maximum of +40° Cel-
sius).
Commissioning
- Change or fill engine oil
- Change oil, air and fuel filters
- Unscrew and clean spark plug, check distances if
necessary.
- Let the generator crank a little without the spark
plug by pulling the cable so that the oil is distribu-
ted.
- Install spark plug
- Fill with suitable fuel
Important note
When the generator is started, smoke will initially be pro-
duced. The reason for this is that the oil that was pre-
viously filled in also burns.
When stored for a longer period of time, the rotor in the
synchronous motor loses its residual magnetism and can
no longer generate voltage. To prevent this, it is recom-
mended that the generator is subjected to a test run of at
least 15 minutes at least once a month. In case of pro-
blems, contact Stürmer Service.
