EXACT SPACING BETWEEN BALUSTERS - GIVEN APPROXIMATE DESIRED SPACING
Example: You are building a staircase with a handrail along the side of it. The span of the handrail is
144 Inches. Each baluster is 1Inch wide and you want there to be about 2-1/2 Inches of space
between each baluster. However, you’ll need to nd the exact spacing required, as well as how many
balusters are needed.

1. Calculate the number of balusters that you’ll need to cover the span, given the approximate
combined meausrement of the baluster width and the space before the next one:

2. Find how much space is taken up by the combined width of the balusters:

3. Subtract combined baluster widths from the span to nd the combined space between balusters:

4. Divde the combined space between balusters by the number of spaces between the balusters
(which is the number of balusters plus one)
