REGULAR HIP/VALLEY AND JACK RAFTERS
Example: A roof has a 7 Inch Pitch, and a span of 21 Feet (run = 10 Feet 5 Inches). Assume that the
jack rafters have a 16-Inch On-center spacing between them. Calculate the following:
1. For the common rafter: point-to-point length, angles for plumb and level cuts
2. For the hip/valley rafter: length, angles for plumb, level, and cheek cuts
3. Use the stored On-center spacing to calculate the incremental jack adjustment, regular jack
rafter lengths and angles for the plumb, level, and cheek cuts.

SHEATHING CUT
Example: You are applying sheathing to a roof with a Pitch of 7 Inches, using a piece of plywood
measuring 4 Feet by 8 Feet, with the 8 Foot side along the plate. Calculate the run to nd the length of
sheathing material you need to cut.
