B form a virtual router that uses cluster ID 1. ZyWALLs C and D form a virtual
router that uses cluster ID 2.

Monitored Interfaces in Active-Passive Mode Device HA
You can select which interfaces device HA monitors. If a monitored interface on
the ZyWALL loses its connection, device HA has the backup ZyWALL take over.
Enable monitoring for the same interfaces on the master and backup ZyWALLs.
Each monitored interface must have a static IP address and be connected to the
same subnet as the corresponding interface on the backup or master ZyWALL.
Virtual Router and Management IP Addresses
If a backup takes over for the master, it uses the master’s IP addresses. These
IP addresses are know as the virtual router IP addresses.
Each interface can also have a management IP address. You can connect to this
IP address to manage the ZyWALL regardless of whether it is the master or the
backup.
For example, ZyWALL B takes over A’s 192.168.1.1 LAN interface IP address. This
is a virtual router IP address. ZyWALL A keeps it’s LAN management IP address of
