8 Preventive Maintenance
The ABB GLA531 Series LGR-ICOS™ Gas Analyzer require minimal maintenance, however, several moving
parts in the exhaust pump and solenoid valves eventually wear out. Simple preventive maintenance (PM) is
necessary to avoid any unanticipated break-down and performance degradation (see Table 18 for a typical
maintenance schedule). Two levels of PM are recommended to be scheduled and performed:
1) Yearly PM
2) Pump replacement every 5 years
WARNING!
Preventive maintenance must be performed by trained personnel who successfully
completed the maintenance course on the analyzer.
Always follow the “Lockout-tagout” procedure when servicing the analyzer.
Yearly Maintenance
• Servicing the exhaust pump is necessary every year. Replace the diaphragms, seals, and valve plates
in both pump heads.
• A yearly maintenance kit is available and includes a pump rebuild kit.
• Inspect the condition of the ICOS mirrors. If the mirrors are in good condition, no cleaning is
necessary.
• Inspect the condition of the hard drive. It is recommended to move the old data files to an archive
storage location regularly, because the oldest data are discarded when the hard drive is full.
NOTE
Dirty mirrors are usually caused by contaminants in the sample gas, such as
fine particles, hydrocarbons, oil mist, or excessive moisture. Ensuring the
sample gas line is clean keeps the ICOS mirrors functioning properly.
Five-Year Maintenance
After five years of continuous operation, the exhaust pump approaches the end of its useful life. In addition
to the yearly mirror health inspection and hard-drive maintenance as described above:
• Replace the entire exhaust pump with a new one every five years.
• A five-year maintenance kit is available; this kit includes a replacement pump and a pressure
valve.
NOTE
Having a spare replacement pump on-hand is very useful for immediate
replacement, instead of replacing diaphragms and seals once a year.
• An individual replacement pump may be purchased separately.
