LVI-3800
Low Voltage Relay Controller
The LVI-3800 is a low voltage controlled relay device which can be used in several different
design options. Each option will require its own LVI-3800.
1 One LVI-3800 can be used to control sources which cannot be controlled through the
PCT-4 or PCT-8 (for example a slide projector). Please note, only one LVI-3800 can be
used for source control per system.
2 The LVI-3800 can be used to follow the source selection of a particular zone on the Delta-
88 acting as zone tracker. This setup will provide a relay closure for lowering a screen
and engaging a projector when only a video source is selected.
3 The LVI-3800 can be used in conjunction with the MC-3800 indoor controls to provide
momentary contact closures for each one of the six MC-3800 soft-keys. These buttons
can be used to control lighting, curtains, projectors, etc. Since the LVI-3800 provides a
low voltage closure when a soft-key button is pressed, a low voltage signal can be
passed to an unused port on the PCT-8. This voltage signal goes into the PCT-8's unused
port's 1/4" phone jack input. When the PCT-8 receives a low voltage (5VDC) pulse
through its 1/4" input, it will flash one IR code (programmed into that ports MAIN
function). Therefore, if you system has a home theater system where the projector
requires an IR on/off code to engage, the on/off function can be performed from the
MC-3800. When a MC-3800 soft-key (labeled ON) is pressed, the corresponding LVI-
3800 momentarily closes a specific relay which then passes 5VDC to an open PCT-8 port
(1/4" phone jack (5VDC) input). The PCT-8 will then emit the IR on code to the projector.
The LVI-3800 has several different address settings which are engaged by setting its DIP
switches. The following chart specifies these settings. Since several different options exist, and
since several LVI-3800s can be used for any option on only a specific room, you will need to
carefully set the DIP switches on your LVI-3800 (s). Furthermore, depending of the option you
need to access, you may also need to invert the polarity of the receive and transmit lines when
trying to track a particular zone's source selection. The two jumper pins on the LVI-3800 can
be pulled out and inverted making this switch
easy.
The LVI-3800 provides both a 5VDC or 12VDC
output which engages when specified to.
Furthmore, each of the eight relays (all eight used
for zone tracking - the first six are used for soft-key
control) can be set to either switch from Normally
Open (NC) to Normally Closed (NC) or to open
from Normally Closed to Normally Open. Using
a small screw driver, wedge the relay out of posi-
tion and move it over one space on the relays
receptical and re-insert the relay.
