4.1.1 Wear and maintenance
Wear on the chainring/sprocket means that the chain is gui-
ded less reliably over the corresponding toothed gear and
can therefore jump off.
Worn chain links widen the free openings to accommodate
the teeth so that the chain is guided less reliably over the
chain ring and sprocket and can jump off. The impression
may arise that the chain has widened.
f Check rhw chain ring, sprocket and chain regularly for
signs of wear (visual inspection).
f Have worn chain rings or sprockets replaced by a
bicycle dealer.
f Have the chain correctly adjusted or replaced by the
bicycle dealer if it appears that the chain has widened
or the chain/chain links show signs of wear.

4.1.2 Cleaning and care
f Keep the components of the chain drive free of dirt and
clean them regularly to avoid loss of function of the
chain drive.
f Clean the chain with a clean, lightly oiled cloth.
f Clean the chain ring and sprocket with a soft brush.
