The StatTrak-E by All Traffic Solutions is a discreet, wireless traffic data collection device designed for law enforcement authorities and traffic engineers. It provides detailed statistics and reports on vehicle counts and speeds, categorized by vehicle class (small, medium, and large). The device is capable of capturing traffic data simultaneously for both same and opposite directions. For roadside installations, it monitors up to two lanes of traffic, and for median installations, it can monitor up to four lanes bidirectionally. For TraffiCloud subscribers, data is automatically uploaded to the cloud.
Upon receiving the StatTrak-E, an initial setup is required. This includes charging the device, signing in to TraffiCloud, choosing a site for the StatTrak-E, mounting a solar panel (if purchased), installing mounting brackets, mounting and aiming the StatTrak-E, connecting the solar panel, powering on the device, setting up the StatTrak-E mobile app, and confirming the installation.
The StatTrak-E features a dual-use IP68 waterproof charging port that serves as both a solar panel input and an AC charging port. The device is shipped with batteries that are not fully charged, and it is strongly recommended to fully charge them before initial use. The supplied smart battery charger includes a charge indicator. The battery (or batteries) should not be removed for charging, and the device should remain off during charging.
The battery charger is designed for use in protected environments and must not be left unattended. It should be kept free of moisture and away from flammable or explosive goods. Place the charger on a flat, non-flammable surface in a well-ventilated environment, ensuring ambient room temperatures do not exceed 104°F (40°C). The charger should not be covered. The power supply must be turned off before connecting or disconnecting the charger and batteries. Modifying the charger, accessories, or connectors can cause a short circuit, fire, or overheating, potentially damaging the StatTrak-E and voiding the warranty.
A typical StatTrak-E package includes:
For setup, users will need a sheltered workspace, an electrical power supply, a nut driver, a power screwdriver or drill, and two wrenches or nut drivers with 7/16-in. (11 mm) sockets. An Android mobile device with the StatTrak-E app is also needed for advanced setup, though not strictly required for basic roadside installations.
To generate reports, users must sign in to TraffiCloud, create at least one Site for each StatTrak-E, and assign the device to it. This can be done before or after physical installation. TraffiCloud organizes traffic data by Site.
The physical location for the StatTrak-E should be a flat, straight road section, directly adjacent to the roadway, with an uninterrupted line of sight to the vehicles. It should be at least 100 ft. (30 m) away from any intersection and ideally within 12 ft. (3.7 m) of the roadway. The mounting height should be between 5 ft. 6 in. (1.7 m) at the bottom of the enclosure and 8 ft. (2.5 m) at the top. The pole bracket can be secured to various pole types using banding straps, lag screws, or nuts and bolts. Locations with frequent tailgating or stopped traffic should be avoided to maintain data accuracy. The device must be mounted on a stable and firm structure, protected from wind or rain.
If a solar panel is included, it should be mounted high on the pole, optimally 10 ft. to 12 ft. (3 m to 3.7 m) above the road surface, out of reach of vandals. The two-part bracket allows for full adjustment to position the panel towards the Sun. In the northern hemisphere, the panel should face due Solar South; in the southern hemisphere, it should face due Solar North. The solar panel should be angled 15 degrees above the latitude of the installation site. For example, if the latitude is 45 degrees, the panel should be installed at a 60-degree angle down from horizontal.
The pole mounting bracket attaches to the back of the StatTrak-E using included hardware. For Telespar-type poles, two pole adapters are installed into the angle bracket and onto the pole bracket. Stainless steel banding straps are threaded through the mounting slots to secure the device to the pole.
The StatTrak-E must be located in close proximity to the traffic being monitored. For median installations, it should directly face the traffic. For roadside installations, it should be angled at 45 degrees to the flow of traffic. The device should have an unobstructed line of sight to traffic lanes and detect vehicles from about 100 ft. (30 m) away. A green LED on the base flashes upon vehicle detection. The horizontal angle to the traffic is set, and for roadside installations, the angle bracket is installed into the 17-degree slot; for median installations, it's installed into the 12-degree slot.
For two-lane traffic moving in the same direction, the StatTrak-E is installed closest to the incoming lane at a 45-degree angle to the traffic, with a downward angle of 17 degrees. For median installations, lane measurements are crucial. Default values in the mobile app are 13 ft. (3.6 m) for distance to the middle of the first lane, 23 ft. (7 m) for the second lane, and a lane width of 13 ft. (3.6 m). Users are warned to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations when entering roadways to estimate lane measurements if necessary.
Before any maintenance or battery changes, the StatTrak-E must be powered off, and the solar panel disconnected to prevent electrical shock and damage. The solar panel connector is inserted into the StatTrak-E power connectors and twisted to tighten the waterproof IP68 electrical cable connector.
To power on, the key on the bottom of the StatTrak-E enclosure is turned one-quarter clockwise to the ON position. After about 30 seconds, a green status light flashes, indicating the device is powered on. The LED then turns off and only flashes when traffic is detected or if power is cycled. Keys should be removed and kept secure. To conserve battery life, the device should be powered down when not in use.
The mobile app is used for testing and configuring the StatTrak-E after installation. While not required for roadside installations, it provides useful real-time readings. For median installations, the app is essential for entering lane measurements and distances to achieve higher accuracy. The app connects via Bluetooth. Users log in with provided credentials, then can search for and connect to their device via its MAC address. The app displays connection details like Serial Number, Firmware Version, Network Strength, Battery Status, and Directional Mode.
The mobile app allows users to:
Installation is confirmed by checking the green LED at the base of the StatTrak-E (flashes 30 seconds after power-on and upon vehicle detection) and by checking Real Time Readings in the mobile app. All Traffic Solutions recommends conducting traffic studies for at least two weeks, with data automatically uploading to TraffiCloud.
To replace batteries, the StatTrak-E must be powered off, and the solar panel disconnected. The enclosure is opened by removing two Torx security screws. Velcro straps holding the batteries are detached, and battery connectors are disconnected before lifting batteries out. New, fully charged lithium iron phosphate batteries (supplied by All Traffic Solutions) are inserted, connectors reattached, and Velcro straps securely resecured in a cross-over pattern. The enclosure is then closed and security screws tightened. The solar panel is reconnected, and power is turned back on.
Lithium batteries have a protective outer wrap that should never be removed, as this can damage the batteries and create a hazard. Batteries should not be bent or punctured, as this could cause a fire or explosion.
