8.3 CATcontrol
ComputerAidedTransceiver(CAT)commandswerecreatedtoallowPCstocontrolradios.They
allowmostofthesettingsofaradiotobeaccessedusingsimpleserialcommands.Manydifferent
kindsofprogramusethem,andmanyexternaldevicesareavailable(e.g.autotuners)thatuse
them.
THETISsupportsCAT
commands,andcanhave4connectionsopenatanytime.Theseareaccessed
throughtheSetupform,CATControltab.
Establishingaconnectionissimple:
1. Connectanexternaldevice,ifyouhaveone.
2. IfyouareconnectingtoanotherprogramonthesamePC,youwillneeda
virtualCOMport
program
3. ChoosetheCATconnectiononTHETIS(THETIShasoneCATconnectionontheprimarytab,
andthreemoreonthe“CAT+”form.Theyareallthesame).
4. SettheporttotheportnumberofyourdeviceorVACcable
5. Setthebaudrate,
parity,dataandstopbitsappropriately(thereshouldbedocumentation
fortheproductyouareconnectingto)
6. ClickEnable
7. Andthat’sitconnectionwillbeestablished.

Takecareifyourremotedeviceincludesan“Arduino”basedprocessor:NEVERopentheconnection
withthebaudratesetto1200.Thatwillcausethedevicetoeraseitsfirmware,requiringittobe
reprogrammed.
