3.4 Installing Bearing Sleeves
Using an oven or heat gun, heat both of the clamshell halves to
between 130° and 150°C to expand the housings.
Make sure that the bearing sleeves (Fig. 6.) and clamshell halves
are clean and free from any contaminants (e.g., water, dirt, metal
filings, etc.).
Apply Loctite 620 retaining compound (Fig. 5.) to the outside of
each bearing sleeve, just below the knurl.
Using a bearing press or arbor press, install the bearing sleeves.
Press them down until they have completely seated at the bottom
of the bearing bore (Fig. 7. & 8.).
HINT : If the clamshell halves are hot enough, the sleeves
should install with minimal press fit.
NOTE : Use a feeler gauge to ensure that the bearing sleeve
has been completely seated.
