5. Route the recoil rope through the rope guide of the
recoil housing and through the recoil handle; then
tie a knot in the rope.

6. Wind the rope counterclockwise 3-4 turns around
the roller.
7. Secure the recoil starter to the engine shroud.

NOTE: At this point, install the engine (see Sec-
tion 2).
Accessory Belt
Arctic Cat recommends that the condition of the acces-
sory belt be inspected monthly.
CHECKING BELT TENSION
1. Be sure ignition key is in the OFF position.
2. Lift the hood and remove the cap screws securing
the belt guard to the engine; then remove the belt
guard from the engine compartment.
3. Inspect the belt for cracks, wear, and proper
tension.
4. Using the thumb, check the tension (tightness) of
the belt by pressing down on the belt near mid-
span. The maximum belt deflection must not
exceed 9 mm (0.35 in.).

ADJUSTING BELT TENSON
1. Remove the cap screws securing the belt guard to
the engine; then remove the belt guard from the
engine compartment.
2. On the alternator, loosen, but do not remove, the
adjustment cap screw (A) and the pivot cap screw
(B).

DO NOT inspect the belt while the engine is run-
ning. Contact with the belt, pulleys, or other moving
parts may cause personal injury.
