Ask your diabetes healthcare professional about recommended testing
procedures when operating machinery or driving a car, as fingertip
testing is usually the preferred method of testing under these
circumstances.
If bruising occurs, you may choose to lance a fingertip instead.
Preparing to Test Your Blood Glucose
From an Alternate Site
Choose a Site: Select a soft, fleshy
area on the palm, forearm, or upper
arm that is free of visible veins, moles,
and hair and away from bone. Wash
the area with warm, soapy water.
Rinse and dry completely. If you use
alcohol wipes to cleanse the site,
make sure the area is dry before
lancing the site.
