7.20 Oil Separator Element
The RT-40 is equipped with an oil separa-
tor element that should be changed every
1500 hours. Allow the machine to cool
prior to service. Wear any PPE necessary
to ensure your safety while performing
maintenance or service.
To change the element:
1. Shut the machine down according to
the procedure in section 5.12 and
allow the machine to cool thoroughly.
Open the hood for access.
2. Locate the electrical connectors near
the oil separator housing on the left
side of the engine bay (fig. 7.20-1).
3. Dislodge them from the mount, then
disconnect and lay them aside for
clearance (7.20-2).
4. Loosen and lower the clamp securing
the hose to the bottom of the oil sepa-
rator housing, then disconnect the
hose (fig. 7.20-3, 7.20-4).
5. Using a short angled 1-1/16” (or met-
ric equivalent) wrench, remove the
lower cap (fig. 7.20-5, 7.20-6).
6. Remove and replace the filter element
and o-ring seal on the lower cap (fig.
7.20-6, 7.20-7).
7. Reverse steps 1-5 of this procedure to
restore the machine to operating con-
dition (see note).
Note: Take care not to damage or dis-
lodge the insulation on the housing or
cap. Also, ALWAYS start threading the
lower cap (fig. 7.20-6) by hand making
sure the threads are not crossed (cap is
going on straight) and that the element is
centered on the retaining features of the
cap and housing before tightening care-
fully with a wrench. DO NOT over tighten.
