It appears if t he select or lever f or t he auto matic t ransmission is not
in the
P positio n w hen switch ing off t he ignit ion wit h the
!START EN GINE STO P ! button . Move t he select or lever t o t he P
posit ion, otherwise t he vehicle is not secured against rolling away.
You also cannot lock the vehicle using t he lockin g button on the door
handl e or using the remo t e key.
Convenience key defective ! Use ignition lock
This message appears if t he vehi cle has to be star t ed not w it h t he
!START ENGINE STOPJ button but with the ignitio n key.
& WARNING
• Never allow the engine to run in confined spaces· danger of
asphyxiation.
• Never turn off the engine until the vehicle has come to a
complete stop.
• The brake booster and servotronic only work when the engine
is running. With the ignition turned off, you have to apply mo re
force when steering or braking . Since you cannot steer and stop
normally, this can lead to accidents and serious injuries .

• Avoid high engine rpm, full throttle and heavy engine loads until
t he engine has reached operatin g t emperat ure - oth erwise you risk
engine damage.
• The engi ne cannot be start ed by pushin g or t owing th e vehicle.
• If the engine has been under heavy load for an extended period,
heat builds up in t he engine compa rt ment after the engine is

Emergency OFF function
If necessary, th e engine can be swi tc hed off w it h t he select or lever in
t he
R, D or S* positio ns. To do so, step on t he brake pedal and press
and hold the
!START ENGINE STO P ! button (vehicle speed must be
less t han 6 mph/ 10 km/h.
