Acronyms
The following acronyms are used in this Manual:
AAE
Aperture Auto Exposure Automatic Iris F-stop value (aperture) of the camera. This will set the depth of field.
AWB
Auto White Balance Automatic white balance setting of the camera. This will make the picture warm (yellow) or cold (blue).
BLC
Back Light Compensation Compensation for filming against back light.
CMOS
Complementary Metal Oxide
Semiconductor
Type of semiconductor technology used in the fabrication of integrated circuits and sensors. CMOS
technology is widely used in various electronic devices such as cameras for example.
DRC
Dynamic Range Compression The Dynamic Range Compression setting of the camera. The DRC works by compressing the natural
dynamic range of the image by taking out the darkest and lightest parts.
EV
Exposure Value Artificial setting to make the picture lighter.
HD
High Definition High (video) resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
HDMI
High-Definition Multimedia
Interface
Digital audio and video interface used to transmit high-quality audio and video signals between devices,
such as computers, monitors, cameras and more.
IP
Internet Protocol Protocol that govern the way data packets are transmitted over the internet and other networks. IP
provides a unique address for each device connected to a network, allowing data to be sent and
received between devices across the internet.
MJPEG
Motion-JPEG Video compression format that compresses each frame of a video sequence individually as a JPEG
image. Unlike other video compression formats that use inter-frame compression, MJPEG treats each
frame as a separate image, resulting in higher quality images but larger file sizes compared to other video
codecs like H.264 or H.265.
NDI
Network Device Interface A technology developed by NewTek that enables the real-time transmission and communication of video,
audio, and metadata over standard Ethernet networks. NDI allows video sources, such as cameras, to be
interconnected and accessed over a local area network (LAN) without the need for specialized video
cables or hardware.
NR
Noise Reduction Camera setting that reduces noise in the picture. Noise is unwanted disturbance that can degrade the
quality of the image. These disturbances may appear as random specks, grain, flickering, or distortions in
the video footage.
OSD
On-Screen Display Display menu that appears on your monitor screen when the camera is connected to IP, SDI or HDMI.
PoE
Power over Ethernet Technology that allows electrical power to be transmitted along with data over an Ethernet cable.
PTZ
Pan / Tilt / Zoom Directions to which the lens of the camera can move: Pan (horizontal), Tilt (vertical) and Zoom (zooming in
to the picture to magnify objects on large distance).
RTMP
Real-Time Messaging Protocol Protocol used for streaming audio, video, and data over the internet in real-time.
RTSP
Real-Time Streaming Protocol Protocol used for controlling the streaming of multimedia data, such as audio and video, over IP networks.
RTSP enables the delivery of real-time media content from a server to clients, allowing users to access and
interact with live or recorded multimedia streams.
SAE
Shutter Auto Exposure Setting that automatically determines the best configuration for the shutter speed. The higher the shutter
speed, the more sharp the picture become.
SDI
Serial Digital Interface Video transmission standard used in the broadcast and professional video production industry to transmit
high-quality, uncompressed digital video and audio signals over coaxial cables.
SKU
Stock Keeping Unit Stock keeping unit used by Avonic. Every camera has an unique SKU with AV-CM (Avonic Camera).
SRT
Secure Reliable Transport Open-source streaming protocol designed for transmitting high-quality video, audio, and data over
unreliable or unpredictable networks, such as the internet.
TCP
Transmission Control Protocol Communication protocol in computer networks and the internet. TCP provides a reliable, connection-
oriented, and stream-oriented communication between two devices, typically computers or servers.
UDP
User Datagram Protocol Connectionless communication protocol used in computer networks and the internet. Unlike TCP, UDP
does not establish a dedicated connection between two devices before data transmission.
