8-3-2.  Assembly
(1) Applying lubricating grease
Step 1    Apply a thin film (not more than 0.3 mm thick) of G40M silicone grease made by 
Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd., as indicated in 
Table 8-3, to the surface of all 
gland packing material.
Step 2    Apply Plastilube No.3 grease made by the U.S. company Sulflo, Inc., as indicated in 
Table 8-3, to the two backup O-rings, which are placed around the inner and 
outer diameter of the packing follower. 
(2) Assembling
Step Procedure

Check the correct direction of the gland stud bolts in 
Figure 8-2. Apply anti-seizure 
agent Never-Seez made by Bostik Inc. indicated in 
Table 8-3 to the threads on the 
stuffing box end, and screw the stud into the stuffing box.

2 First, insert the spacer, paying extra attention not to damage the surface of the stem.
3 Insert one of the gland packing rings. Be sure to open the ring in the manner illustrated 
in  Figure 8-3. Insert the packing all the way to the bottom with a pipe, etc., and 
push it lightly. Insert the remaining packing rings with the position of the gap shifted 
by 180° each time.

With reference to 
Figure 8-1, check the correct mounting orientation of the pack-
ing follower (the outer O-ring should face the gland packing). Insert it, paying extra 
attention not to damage the surface of the stem.

to damage the surface of the stem.
