mode selector pro-
vides
control
and annunciation of the
KFC
400's
Flight Director modes. Illu-
mination of the annunciations is ad-
justed automatically by a photocell
located on the face of the unit.

HDG
(heading select)

Illumin-
ates when heading select mode is
engaged by the heading pushbutton.
Flashing indicates
loss
of a sensor
required to hold selected
HDG
(e.9.
invalid magnetic heading, invalid
se-
lected heading) and continues until a
second push of the
HDG
pushbutton
to acknowledge automatic disengage-
ment of the mode.
2.
NAV
(capture and track selected
navigation sensor)
-
Illuminates
when
NAV
capture or
NAV
track
mode is engaged by the
NAV
push-
button and normally sequenced
through
NAV ARM.
Flashing indi-
cates loss of a sensor required to cap-
ture or track the selected nav (e.g.
invalid
NAV,
invalid selected course)
and continues until a second push of
the
NAV
pushbutton acknowledges
automatic disengagement of the
mode.
3.
NAV ARM
(preengage condition of
NAV)
-
Illuminates when
NAV
mode
is called for by the
NAV
pushbutton.
It
allows a compatible lateral mode to
be used to intercept the desired
course or track.
In the event of a sus-
tained
NAV
invalid,
NAV ARM
will dis-
engage leaving the current engaged
mode active and allowing later rearm-
ing
of
the
NAV
mode.
4.
APR
(capture and track selected
navigation sensor with approach
accuracy)

Illuminates when ap-
proach capture or approach track
mode is engaged by the
APR
push-
button and normally sequenced
through
APR ARM.
Flashing indi-
cates loss of a sensor required to cap-
ture or track the selected nav (e.g.
invalid
NAV,
invalid selected course)
and continues until a second push of
the
APR
pushbutton acknowledges
automatic disengagement of the
mode.
5.
APR ARM

automatic disengagement of the
mode.

VNAV
(fly selected vertical track
angle)

Illuminates when vertical
navigation mode is engaged by the
VNAV
pushbutton. Flashing indicates
