9. FAULT LOCATION
9.1 Burner will not start
Indications
Burner does not start
Preventilation
Burner lock-out
Causes
Fuse has blown
Boiler thermostat has not been reset
Preheater does not get up to temperature.
The overheating protector has engaged
Preheater defective
Relay box or flame monitor defective
No oil supply
Excessive pressure drop across the brake
plate
Excessive draught prevents the flame from
forming
No spark
Preheater temperature too low
New oil type
Remedies
Check and replace fuse if necessary. Identify
reason for the fault
Adjust the thermostat
Check preheater function
Reset the overheating protector. Identify
the reason why it has activated. Correct
Check by replacing
Check that the tank, oil lines, solenoid valve,
pump and nozzle are in good condition
Adjust the burner
Correct boiler draught
Check ignition transformer. Check
ignition electrode settings and ceramic
Check preheater function
Adjust the preheater's set operating tem-
perature
Ensure that the new oil's physical parame-
ters are within the limits for which the burner
is designed. If not, change the oil.
9.2 The burner does not start after normal operation
Indications
Motor starts
Preventilation
Flame formed
Burner lock-out
Motor starts
Burner blows
No flame formation
Burner trips
Motor does not start
Causes
The flame is unstable
Excess air
Low oil pressure
Incorrect setting of combustion assembly
Flame monitoring system does not see light
Flame monitoring system error
Faulty relay box
No oil
False light
No spark
Preheater does not get up to temperature.
Max. switch blocked
Remedies
Adjust the air damper
Check the oil pressure
Check the nozzle relative to the dimensions
of the combustion assembly and ignition
electrode position
Check that the flame detection system is
clean and looks bright
Check using a new photocell
Check using a new relay box (NB It is
recommended that the photocell is replaced
if the relay box is changed)
Check oil supply to
the burner and that there are
no air bubbles in the pump
Check solenoid valve function
Check that flame monitor
does not see ambient light
Check the high voltage cables and
ignition electrodes
Check preheater function
Reset
