10.5 Installing the Irrigation Tubing Set
WARNINGS
The irrigation tubing set is sterile and is intended for one-time patient use. To avoid biological
contamination and to ensure proper functioning, do not reuse or resterilize the irrigation tubing
set.
The irrigation tubing set can be damaged if installed incorrectly.
The irrigation solution must flow toward the patient. The arrows on the irrigation tubing set must
face in the same direction as the arrows on the pump head. The end of the tubing that extends
from the left side of the pump must connect to the irrigation solution bag. The end of the tubing
that extends from the right side of the pump must connect to the catheter.
1. Open the pump door (7).
2. Ensure that the arrows on the irrigation tubing (11) face the same direction as
the arrows on the pump head (8).
3. Hold the irrigation tubing in place between the pump head and bubble sensor
(6). Then gently stretch the tubing to the right and insert it into the slot in the bubble
sensor until the tubing snaps into place. Ensure that the tubing touches the back of
the slot in the bubble sensor.
4. Hold the irrigation tubing in place between the pump head and bubble sensor.
Then gently insert the tubing between the pump rotor (9) and the pump bed (10)
from right to left. Ensure that the irrigation tubing is centered in the input and output
tubing clamps of the pump head to avoid inadvertently pinching the tubing closed.
5. Gently stretch the irrigation tubing while closing the pump door.
6. Flush the irrigation tubing. (See 10.6, Flushing to Remove Bubbles from the
Tubing and Catheter.)
