10.8 Starting the Irrigation Flow
WARNINGS
To prevent possible occlusion of the holes in the catheter’s tip electrode, start low flow before
inserting the catheter into the patient and verify that irrigation solution flows from the tip of the
catheter.
Be careful not to overload the patient with irrigation solution, especially at high flow rates.
1. Ensure that there is sufficient solution in the irrigation solution bag.
2. Ensure that the irrigation tubing set is properly installed and that there are no
bubbles in the tubing.
3. Press the Activate High Flow button (the button changes to blue
) or press the Activate Low Flow button (the button changes to
green ).
4. Verify that the pump rotor is rotating.
If the pump is connected to a generator that supports automatic pump control, it
is possible to start the irrigation flow from the generator’s user interface or to
configure the generator to automatically change the irrigation flow from low to
high when ablation begins. Refer to the generator user manual.
Caution: If the pump is not controlled by a generator, the irrigation flow must be
controlled by the user. Start high flow before starting the delivery of energy to
allow the desired flow rate to be reached at the tip of the catheter. Continue high
flow for a few seconds after ending the delivery of energy to bring the electrode
back to body temperature.
