nGEN™ Pump User Manual
The numbers in the images above correspond to the numbers in 9.3, Controls on
the Front of the Pump.
When you close the pump door, the irrigation tubing is compressed to prevent
the irrigation solution from flowing freely through the tubing. Be careful not to
pinch your fingers or close off the irrigation tubing.
10.6 Flushing to Remove Bubbles from the Tubing and Catheter
WARNINGS
To eliminate air bubbles, you must flush the irrigation tubing set and catheter before the catheter
is inserted into the patient. Failure to flush the irrigation tubing may result in air embolism in the
patient.
Do not flush the catheter when it is in the patient.
Do not flush the catheter while performing ablation.
When you are flushing the irrigation tubing that is connected to a catheter inside the patient, turn
the stopcock on the irrigation tubing set so that the flushed irrigation solution is diverted away
from the catheter. Failure to do so may result in air embolism in the patient.
1. Press and hold the Flush button. The screen will display a bubble
indicator containing bubbles .
2. Wait a few seconds after there are no bubbles in the flushing
indicator and then release the Flush button.
3. Visually verify that there are no bubbles in the irrigation tubing.
When flushing is required, the Flush button flashes. When flushing is
enabled but not required, the Flush button is lit but does not flash.
The pump detects bubbles in the irrigation tubing at the bubble sensor location.
(See 9.3, Controls on the Front of the Pump.) It is important to continue flushing
for a few seconds after there are no bubbles in the flushing indicator .
This will ensure that the bubbles have been flushed from the irrigation tubing
that extend past the bubble sensor.
If the pump detects bubbles after you turn it on, the screen displays an image
depicting bubbles and the Flush button flashes to indicate that you
must flush before continuing.
If the pump detects bubbles during active irrigation, the pump stops immediately
and emits a repeating high priority alarm tone, and the screen displays a bubble
alarm indicator . (See 10.10, Alarms.)
If the pump is connected to a generator that supports automatic pump control, it
is possible to flush from the generator’s user interface. Refer to the generator
user manual.
