7 INSTALLED COMPONENTS
7.1 AUXILIARY THERMAL DEVICES
7.1.1 FORCED VENTILATION
A fan is keyed to the gear unit input shaft and protected against accidental contact by a guard.
Never run the gear unit when the fan guard is not fitted.
After each maintenance
intervention refit the guards before restarting the gear unit.
Before performing cleaning and/or maintenance work, activate all the safety devices required to avoid
inadvertent starting of the gear unit.
The fan draws in air through the grille in the protective guard and conveys it to the gear unit casing,
thereby eliminating a quantity of heat that depends on the rotation speed.
The efficiency of forced ventilation falls drastically below the speed of n

; in this
case, to increase the thermal capacity of the gear unit it is advisable to adopt auxiliary cooling devices.
When installing a gear unit equipped with a forced air cooling fan ensure that ample
space is left around the unit to ensure sufficient air circulation for cooling purposes.
The cooling function is significantly impaired by the presence of dirt on the fan vanes or dirt
that clogs the grille in the protective guard. Clean these parts regularly in compliance with the
instructions in the "Scheduled Maintenance" heading.
7.1.2 COOLING COIL
The cooling coil, which is provided for integration in a cooling circuit to be created by the customer, is
installed inside the gear unit sump and is normally not removable.
For optimal efficiency the cooling circuit supply must comply with the following specifications:
max. pressure 8 bar
min. flow rate 5 l/min
max. temperature 20°C
Cooling water can circulate through the coil in either direction.
If the cooling water is very hard the use of a water softener is recommended.
To avoid excessive energy consumption it is good practice to equip the cooling circuit with a
thermostatic valve that admits coolant only when the oil reaches a temperature in the region of 40°C.
In the case of freezing temperatures or long periods of disuse, to avoid possible damage the cooling
water should be drained from the circuit and compressed air blown through the empty circuit to
eliminate all residual moisture.
