4-5 Driving Auxiliary Functions 141
4
Application and Driving
The pedestrian protection function cannot overcome the limitations of some
physical conditions, and the function cannot be fully deployed within the speed
range of 5~80km/h specified by the system. Therefore, the responsibility for
taking timely and effective braking action always lies on the driver. Whether the
pedestrian protection system issues an alarm or whether it can apply brake via
the brake pedal or circumvent a pedestrian are based on actual conditions.
Pedestrian protection cannot rely on the system itself to completely avoid
accident and serious injury.
In some complex conditions, the pedestrian protection function may have
unwanted warning and brake intervention, for example, on a curved main road.
Malfunctioning pedestrian protection system may have unwanted warning and
brake intervention, for example, due to angular misalignment of the multi-
functional video controller.
If the forward emergency braking system triggers braking, the brake pedal will
become hard to depress, and the driver will hear "sizzling" sound because
considerable hydraulic pressure is needed to push the brake caliper in a short
time.
The system may not react correctly to the following situations:
Under complex traffic conditions, pedestrians or vehicles cannot always
be clearly identified.
Pedestrians or vehicles move into the detection range of the sensor
rapidly.
Pedestrians are blocked by other objects.
Typical contours of pedestrians cannot be distinguished from the
background.
Pedestrians are not detected due to, for example, special clothing or other
objects with similar characteristics.
It runs on a curve with a small radius.
The following conditions will cause the forward emergency braking system to
become inoperative:
Any door is not closed or is opened while the vehicle is driven.
The seat belt is not fastened or is unfastened while the vehicle is driven.
The driver accelerates or decelerates the vehicle sharply or turns the
steering wheel rapidly.
The driver frequently depresses the accelerator pedal and brake pedal
alternatively during driving.
It runs on a curve with a small radius.
In case of the following situations, please go to a BYD authorized service
provider for professional calibration and confirmation of the intelligent front
view control module:
Removal of Multi-function video controller
The toe-in or rear axle wheel camber has been adjusted during the four-
wheel alignment.
Vehicle collision has occurred.
The ACC system performance degrades or becomes abnormal.
