3. Local Operation
3.1 Introduction
The Chroma 6430/6420/6415 AC sources can be configured to operate in local or remote
operational mode. The operation of the 6430/6420/6415 through a keypad on the front panel for
data entry as well as test execution in local mode will be described here while that through a
remote GPIB controller in remote mode in Chapter Six.
3.2 Setup
The configurational setup of the 6430/6420/6415 includes GPIB address, RS-232C baud rate,
parity, OVP setting, enabled key stroke sound, and system test. The user has to start the
configurational setup when he operates the instrument for the first time. Then, he may modify
the setup when the application is changed.
Press the SHIFT key to enter into the setup, and the green LED will be lighted. Then press the
0 key, and hold it for three seconds until the red seven-segment LEDs display as below:

Note 1 : If the user sees the red indicator LED of “LOCK” lighted before or during his pressing
the
0 key, he should release and press the 0 key again to switch it off. Then he has
to press the 0 key firmly to wait for the setup screen.
Note 2 : Setup has five functions, which can be selected separately by pressing the numeric key
1 , ... or 5 and the ENTER key. They are described in the following subsections.
3.2.1 GPIB Address
The 6430/6420/6415 provide the user with remote operational mode. For details he can refer to
Chapter Six. However, prior to operating remotely, he has to set GPIB address as follows:
For example: set GPIB address as 25.
