Transceivers
The faceplate of the 3916 has 6 connections which use 100/1000 Mbps
Ethernet pluggable SFP optics. Figure 2-12 on page 2-37 shows the location
of these different ports on the faceplate of the 3916.
The SFP modules provide the media-specific portion of an interface, allowing
it to support Ethernet using different media types. One optic module can be
installed into each available port. The optics in the 3916 are hot swappable. A
reboot is not required after the optics are installed, the 3916 will discover the
optics automatically.
Figure 2-2 shows a typical pluggable optic module and its parts.

The list of supported optics is provided in Packet Networking Transceivers
Reference (009-2011-602). Unsupported optics may not function. See “LED
Overview” on page 4-1 for LED information.
For additional information see:
• “To Install a Pluggable Optic” on page 2-37
• “To Remove a Pluggable Optic” on page 2-39
Note: Copper 100/1000 and T1/E1 SFPs require the use of shielded
cables.
Note: RJ-45 UNI ports require the use of shielded cables to meet class B
emissions requirements.
Note: XCVR-GETDM3 can only be used in an FCC or CISPR class A
emissions environment.
