1.CommonInformation
A.Usethisproceduretocleanandpolishtheexternalsurfacesoftheaircraft.Cleantheexternalsur-
facesfrequentlytohelppreventcorrosionandtoextendthelifeoftheaircraftstructure.Cleanthe
surfacesthatdonothavepaintmorefrequentlythanthepaintedsurfaces.
B.Theliquidsusedinthisprocedurecancauseinjurytotheskinandeyes,ordamagetotheaircraft.
Alwayswearprotectiveclothingwhenyoucleantheaircraft.Thecleanercancausecorrosionifthey
arenotremovedcompletelyfromtheaircraftsurfaces.Thesolventthatismixedwiththecleaneris
ammable.Keepthesolventawayfromsourcesofheat.
C.Failuretoremovecoversoverpitot-staticprobesbeforeightmaycauselargeerrorsinairspeed-
sensingandaltitude-sensingsignals,whichmayleadtolossofsafeight.
D.Thissectionincludestheseprocedures:
(1)Removecontaminants(dustanddirt)fromsmoothsurfaces.
(2)Removecontaminantsaroundsensitivecomponents.
(3)Removeunwantedhydraulicuid.
E.Dothecleaningofsensitivesurfacesandcomponents,includingmechanicalcontrolsurfaces,landing
gearanditswheelwell,electronicprobesensorsorhydrauliccomponents.Payattentiontoprevent
mechanicaldamageandchemicaldamage(suchaschemicalsplash),improperoperationcancause
damagetocomponents.
F.Tocleanlargeareas,usenon-atomizingsprayequipment,swabs,andbrushes.Tocleansmallareas,
userags,brushes,andsponges.Donotcleananareasolargethatthecleanerdryonthesurface
beforeyoucanushitwithwater.
G.Whencleaningtheaircraft,youcanchoosetheappropriatecleaneroronlyusecleanwatertowork
accordingtotheactualsituation.
