UsingtheWirelessHeartRateReceiver
Ingeneral,awirelessheartratecheststrapisthemostaccurateandconvenientmethodofdetectingandmonitoringa heartratesignalandis
aconsiderableupgradefromthetouchtypeheartratesensors.Occasionally,certainfactorscannegativelyaffecttheaccuratetransmissionof
theheartratesignal.WiFinetworks,cordlesstelephonesandlargeelectricalappliancesmaydegradeorcorruptthesignalsothattherate
appearserraticorimpossiblyhigh.Theonlyremedyforsuchasymptomistoisolatetheunitfrompotentialdisturbances.Additionally,a
person’sbodychemistryorlackofperspirationcanpreventthecheststrapfromprovidingastrongoraccurateheartratesignal

ceivingsystemisonefeaturefoundonthisunit.Inorderfortheconsoletodetectanddisplayyourheart
ratewirelessly,four(4)conditionsmustbepresent:
Acompatibleheartratecheststraptransmitter(notincluded)mustbefunctioningandworn.Forproperfunctionofthecheststrap,
pleaserefertothemanufacturer’sinstructions.NoncodedtransmitterssuchasthePolarmodelT31andT34areexamplesof
wirelesscheststrapsknowntobecompatiblewiththisunit.
Theunitmustbepoweredon.
Aworkoutprogrammustberunning.
Theuseriswithinthree(3)feetofthecons
ole.
CalculatedMaximumHeartRate&TargetTrainingZone
Yourtargetheartratedependsprimarilyuponyourage.Itisimportanttoworkwithina
safeandproductivezone,foriftheexerciseintensityistoolowortoohigh,onlymodest
gainswillbemadeinstrengthandcardiovascularfitness.Aworkoutataverylowintensity
willnotoffermaximumbenefits.Conversely,iftheworkoutintensityistoohigh,injuryor
fatiguemayslowtheprogressionofyourexercisegoalsasthebodyattemptstorecover.
Note: Itismosteffectivetotrainataheartratebetween60%and85%ofyour
maximumheartrate.Maximumheartrateiscalculatedasapercentage
ofyourmaximumheartrate(estimatedas220BPMminusyourage).
Tocalculateyourmaximumheartrateandfindtheappropriatetargettrainingzone,usethe
followingformulas.Thefollowingestimationwouldberelevantfora35yearolduser:
22035=185BPM (220Age=CalculatedMaximumHeartRateinBeatsperminute/BPM)
0.60x185=111BPM (60%of185BPM[CalculatedMaximumHeartRate]=111BPM)
0.85x185=157BPM (85%of185BPM[CalculatedMaximumHeartRate]=157BPM)
