FSG 7016
4 Operation

4.4 Operation in the Receive (Listen) Mode
To operate the transceiver in the receive mode, proceed as follows:
Ensure that the PTT key
8
is NOT depressed, and verify that the 'TX BATT' red
LED
2
is OFF.
Verify that 'CH' Switch
5
is set to your desired operating channel 1 … 16.
Set the 'VOL' Control
4
to a comfortable audio level. The VOLUME Control can
be adjusted in a clockwise direction to increase the audio level, or in a counter-
clockwise direction to decrease the audio level which can be heard on the
internal loudspeaker.
IMPORTANT!
When an external headset is plugged to the 'EXT' accessory socket
7
of the transceiver, the internal loudspeaker is automatically
disabled. The 'VOL' Control
4
will now control the audio level
applied to the external loudspeaker or headset, as applicable.
When the FSG 7016 is operated with a combined speaker/
microphone (A/N F10168), receive is only audible in the speaker/
microphone.
On a clear channel NO basic receiver noise should be audible in the speaker or
phone (Squelch = ON).
To check the receiver's squelch circuit, set OFF-ON-SQ OFF-VOX knob
1
to 'SQ
OFF' position. On a clear channel, basic receiver noise with constant volume
should be audible (only at an interference free location).
For receiving normal communication, the OFF-ON-SQ OFF-VOX knob
1
should be
in the 'ON' position. Receiver noise, weak signals, and interference signals are
blocked.
If the OFF-ON-SQ OFF-VOX knob
1
is set to the 'SQ OFF' position,
or the side TEST key
9
is depressed (resulting in an additional Test tone
sequence),
maximum receiving radio range is obtained and very weak signals can be
received satisfactorily, but with noise content.
To change the operating channel, set the 'CH' Switch
5
to the desired new
channel 1 through 16.
