4.5 Operation in the Transmit (Talk) Mode
WARNING!
• DO NOT TRANSMIT WITH THIS RADIO IN AN EXPLOSIVE
ATMOSPHERE (PETROLEUM FUELS, SOLVENTS, DUST, ETC.)
IMPORTANT!
• Please, keep radio discipline. The channel must be clear before
transmitting.
• Speak only what is absolutely necessary for accurate
communication.
To operate the transceiver in the transmit mode, proceed as follows:
• Verify that 'CH' switch
5
is set to the desired operating channel 1 … 16.
• Monitor the appropriate channel whether it is busy or not!
• Hold the transceiver FSG 7016 vertically in the left hand, with the microphone
area
11
as close as possible to the upper lip.
This technique is necessary because the noise cancelling feature of the built-in
microphone favours sound close to the microphone and discriminates noise
away from the microphone.
• On a clear channel press and hold the transmit (PTT) key
8
.
• The 'TX BATT' LED
2
lights RED when the transmitter is ON.
• Speak loud, slow and distinct into the built-in microphone
11
using specified
operating procedures during transmission.
• Make each transmission as brief as possible.
• Release the PTT key
8
to end the transmission and to clear the channel.
• The transceiver is now operating in the receive mode.
• Verify that the 'TX BATT'
2
red LED is OFF.
• To change the operating channel, set the 'CH' switch
5
to the new desired
channel 1 through 16.
IMPORTANT!
• If the TX BATT red LED does not light when you press the PTT switch
the battery pack may need to be charged (refer to section 2.3).
• If the TX BATT red LED does not light and a tone is heard, you are on
a RECEIVE ONLY channel. Switch the channel selector to an
authorised transmit channel.
• If the duration of your message exceeds 5 minutes, the time out
timer shuts off the transmitter automatically. If you wish to continue
the transmission, release the PTT, then press again, hold, and
continue talking.
