The blower draws air through the dehumidifier, putting the cabinet under
negative pressure. As a result, the included P-trap is required for proper
draining. The installed drain fitting on the dehumidifier is 3/4" (DN20) FNPT.
Use the included fittings to trap and install the drain. See Figure 25-1. The
drain tubing can be hard pipe or flexible tubing. NOTE: PTFE thread seal tape
is recommended for the threaded connections and hand tighten only. Use PVC
primer and cement for all slip fit connections to prevent leaks. After installing
the drain connections, trap, and tubing, pour enough water, about 32 oz.
(950 mL) into the dehumidifier drain pan to prime the trap.
If the drain tubing will be installed to a condensate pump, or if a common
drain tube will serve multiple dehumidifiers or air conditioners, a vacuum
breaker is recommended to prevent the p-trap from being unintentionally
siphoned. Install a T-fitting with a short section of drain tubing pointed vertically
and extending above the start of the filter (see Figure 25-1). Install the
vacuum breaker after the P-trap.
